Suz Evasdaughter is author of The Raw Route to Perfect Health and Weight and is currently working on her book: The Natural Route to Perfect Health Weight and Longevity. She arranges raw food preparation events and Gourmet Dinners to raise funds for animal rights. She also writes regular columns on nutrition for leading local and national publications and gives talks locally and to national health conferences. As well as being a raw food writer and nutritionalist, she is a raw lifestyle coach, chef and educator. A raw TV programme is planned and there are Raw Detox Delights planned for Turkey in spring 2008.

Raw eating concentrates on optimal nutrition through eating food in its natural state. Of the 58,000 higher animal species on the planet, we are the only one to cook our food. It is no coincidence that we are also the only species, to suffer from obesity and chronic degenerative diseases of all our major organs and systems. Eating a raw food diet offers superb health and freedom from a wide range of illnesses whilst savouring an abundance of wholesome delicious food. Problems associated with menstruation and the menopause disappear. Raw food diets have been used successfully to banish allergies, arthritis, cardio-vascular problems, cancer, depression, type II diabetes and a panoply of other degenerative diseases. Excess weight vanishes as if by magic.

In the last 10 years the concept of raw food has been sweeping across America, where it has been adopted by hundreds of thousands of people. Celebrities like Sting, Donna Karan and Piers Brosnan are high profile advocates, but in Britain it has only just come to popular attention. But you can't keep a good thing down for long. We need to do something about the state of the nation's health and the only reliable long term way to do that is through nutrition. So the media is beginning to pay attention: Recently the BBC2 programme, The Truth about Food demonstrated the health benefits of eating a completely raw diet when a group of volunteers made dramatic reductions in their sodium and cholesterol levels following just 12 days on a mostly raw food diet. The first week of their diet was completely raw. In the autumn I will be demonstrating a raw food recipe as part of a UKTV prime time production.
